How I work with models on TFP (or TFCD)

What I do not do

  • I do not conduct a shoot without a model release. The release provides for a clear understanding of the photographer/model relationship and protects both the model and photographer from misunderstandings. The release I use was drafted by my attorney to accomodate how I conduct TFP shoots. It provides both a model release and a usage license for the model. I will also take a photo of the model and her photo ID that will be part of the model release.
  • I do not provide a CD of all images from the shoot. As a photographer, I create the image in the camera and with post-production software. I want the model to only have the finished product.
  • I do not allow any drugs on the set.
  • I do not work with minors in any nude or suggestive sets.
  • I do not work with minors without parental consent. Any minor must be accompanied by a parent, and the parent must sign the release. There are no acceptable substitutes for a parent in these circumstances.
  • I do not allow escorts or "body guards" on the set. Escorts are welcome to accompany the model to the set, meet the photographer and any other team members, but then the escort and model need to agree on when the escort will return and pick up the model. I find "escorts" to be a distraction to the creative process. I have had theft problems with escorts and my professional liability insurance does not cover escorts. An exception to this might be if the model has a friend who is a model who is acceptable to the photographer and can be included in the shoot in some way. The model is welcome to contact any of the many models I have worked with. I have supplied contact information for many models on my web site and on my ModelMayhem.com page. The exception to this is a minor who must have a parent present at all times.

Seriously, if you are not comfortable shooting with me after a pre-shoot meeting (if you want that), our phone conversations, and after you and your escort checking out the set, and after you doing your due diligence research on my background, then we probably shouldn't shoot together.

There are many problems associated with bringing "escorts" to a shoot that have been documented on modeling/photography websites. My favorite source for a discussion (with considerable participation on my part) is The Thread on modelmayhem.com.

Please contact me if you have any questions.
