What is a portrait? That’s easy; it’s a photograph of a person that usually focuses on the face and upper body. Of course, it could be a group portrait. Or a photo of your cat or dog. It doesn’t have to just be the face and upper body. A portrait will use techniques like composition, lighting and posing to tell a story. That’s what the textbooks tell me. That information doesn’t distinguish a portrait from any other photo of a human (or cat or dog). It’s often confusing to pigionhole styles of art. I’ve done my best to do that with a goal of making it useful for the viewer to see what kind of work I do.
