This photograph is part of an exhibition at the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art. The Instagram post required that the nipples be censored so my blog is where I can freely share this work. However, my discussion of this work can be found on the IG post. The concept for this photograph has the crucifix resting on the nipple—an area of intimacy, vulnerability, and agency—and symbolizes the historical weight of doctrine on women’s lives. It reframes the breast not as shameful or hidden, but as a locus where spiritual and bodily power intersect.
